Gardena
Cinema was built in 1947 and is an old-fashioned
single screen movie theater with a seating
capacity of 800.
Our large screen is over 35 feet wide. We
also have a state-of-the-art Dolby
Digital©; surround sound system
to enhance the original theater atmosphere.
Gardena
Cinema is the only old-fashioned single
screen movie theater in the South Bay area
that shows first-run Hollywood movies.
Gardena Cinema is a family-operated establishment.
Since 1995, the Gardena Cinema has been
showing mainstream Hollywood movies.
As one patron puts it, "It's too bad that
there aren't anymore theaters like the Gardena
Cinema."
The
Gardena Cinema had gone through many format
changes over the past 25 years. We
have shown films from all over the world,
including South Korea, Mexico, and Japan.
During the late 1970's to the 1980's, the
Gardena Cinema was called "Teatro Variedades"
and showed Spanish language films.
Teatro Variedades also hosted some of the
most well-known names in Mexico for live
variety shows. Some of the talents
that have graced our stage are La India
Maria, Pedro Infante, and Jorge Rivera.
Before
being Teatro Variedades, the Gardena Cinema
was known as the Park Theatre.
The
Gardena Cinema is conveniently located south
of the 105 and north of the 91 freeway;
east of the 405 freeway and west of the
110 freeway. We are 25 minutes south
of Downtown Los Angeles and 35 minutes north
of Anaheim (Orange County).
